I’m All for Freedom of Speech, But…

The pastor of a small Florida church is planning to hold a huge burning of copies of the Quran (the Muslim Holy Book) on Saturday - the anniversary of September 11th.

The Vatican, U.S. miltary officials and the Obama administration have asked Pastor Terry Jones to cancel the event. Military officials have warned that the burning party may incite radical Muslims in the Middle East to attack U.S. soldiers.

So far Jones says he’s not backing down. He says Islam is an evil religion and people must stand up against it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for freedom of speech, this is America, but in this country we should respect all religions, including Islam. And I agree with our military leaders that this burning party, if it actually happens, could put the lives of our military men and women at risk. 

Will Jones actually go through with it? We’ll have to see.
